Position Summary:

Tau Films is currently looking for a talented and experienced Modeler to join our creative team. This profile would be suitable for an applicant who is a team player, solution oriented & making recommendations to improve the modeling processes. The right person should possess the ability to demonstrate a basic understanding of common design components that make aesthetically pleasing models, i.e. balance, composition, shape/form, rhythm, etc.

Note - Covid 19 pandemic has made it necessary for Tau Films(all locations) to shift our operations entirely to remote work platforms for the time being.


  • Create a variety of complex realistic models, including props and environments, as well as basic characters.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of character anatomy & understanding of design fundamentals/principles preparing and installing models for production.
  • He/She will be responsible for Sculpting the characters and props.
  • He/She will be responsible for blendshapes, retopology & UV layout.
  • Basic knowledge of image lineup and camera tracking would be needed.
  • Display versatility in their ability to create a wide range of models from hard-edged to organic shapes.
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic Unix commands/navigation.
  • To create models that align with artistic design/style of film; interpret art reference/art direction.
  • He/She should be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare and install technically clean models for production.
  • To be able to troubleshoot technical and creative problems.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking in various modeling approaches and apply tools effectively and creatively to models.
  • Familiarity with the design rules and themes of the film currently assigned to and how to best apply them.

Experience & Essential Skills Expected:

  • 4+ years of industry experience preferred.
  • Applicants should show willingness to model characters and props and environments.
  • Shows adaptability to new methods, techniques and tools, as well as adaptability to the show. production pipeline/environment.
  • Need to have sound experience with Maya and zbrush software.
  • Knowledge of texturing,lookdev, and grooming will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of any game engine is a plus.
  • Understanding of programming languages (MEL, PERL, CSH) a plus.
  • Preferred knowledge of pipeline techniques, i.e. working with Makefiles, use of percs, moving/renaming files, and troubleshooting for other departments.
  • Understands the technical requirements of each model and how technical modeling decisions relate to other departments.
  • Eagerness to learn and willingness to hone own technical and creative skills
  • Applicants should possess willingness to take direction/feedback & adhere to assignment deadlines.
  • Good people skills; team player and a high level of professionalism.
  • Solid communication, listening and presentation skills.
